1) I thought the Theory of Complementary Mate Selection was incorporated very well in this episode. People often times select/find a mate complementary to their own neurotic components of personalities.
Beiste being powerless over the relationship and Cooter abusing the power he has over Beiste. Complementary.
2) Abused women do often come back to abusers. It’s sad, but it really does happen. When Beiste said that she was afraid that no one else was going to love her is exactly what abused women feel (according to what I’ve learned in nursing school, not in own experience.)
Last but not the least,
3) Cell Block Tango was offensive (and yes, I find Girls Just Wanna Have Fun offensive too, so calm down). But we have to acknowledge the lesson it also gives out which is: “Men are victims of domestic violence too.”
PS: What else is realistic? Naya Rivera’s ability to make them panties drop by wearing that outfit in CBT. That’s realistic.
